(FEATURING: 100 PORTRAITS AND FRIENDS)
2008
The fourth album in the Enter The Worship Circle series. This recording builds on its predecessors, but takes the series to a whole new level. Featuring Ben and Robin Pasley, Tim and Laurie Thornton, Karla Adolphe, and Caleb Friesen the sounds range from roadhouse rock to crazy gypsy drum circles.
"The latest creation, the Fourth Circle, hit the Internet in mid-March. Each of the albums from the previous Circles introduce different artists that team up with Ben and Robin. The Fourth Circle is no different and features Canadian folk artists Karla Adolphe and Caleb Freisen, The Blackthorn Project’s Tim and Laurie Thornton and Aaron Strumpel, who enjoys alt-tunings and has a neo-raspy, old-soul voice. The sound of the Fourth Circle is the most eclectic in the series thus far. It both progresses into areas of blues, gospel, alt-country and bluegrass, giving your ears something new to worship to, while still retaining the tribal familiarity of home that Circle junkies have come to love. Specifically, the harmonica, fiddle and mandolin work is fabulous (kudos to Caleb for bringing in his drum kit as well). The beauty of these instruments is not in any spectacular performances, but rather in the orchestration of them. They most certainly add to the sound and paint highlights on the tracks, but they don’t distract from the song as a whole; they are simply doing what they are supposed to do. Enter the Worship Circle's Fourth Circle retains the family feel with the rest of the EWC records, but also hones the talents of the musicians involved to create something unique from it’s siblings and parents. The members of EWC are normal and this is refreshing."

(FEATURING: 100 PORTRAITS AND FRIENDS)
2003
More rambunctious than either of the first two and in many ways also more intense, Third Circle reflects the maturing sense of song-writing and spontaneous worship among Ben and Robin Pasley and their extremely talented friends. Continuing the idea that the Worship Circle is an unfolding conversation between a small group and a present God this album is rich for private or public worship expression!
This is presently the third of the three "primary" Worship Circle series. Could there be a Fourth Circle around the corner? The answer to that is the same as for these first three: when the right group of relationships assemble around Ben and Robin it could be time, but there is no recruitment for an album, only for life and the Family of Jesus. |

When you listen to tracks 6 and 9 think of these as worship without training wheels...it is just improvisation song and music... Even though Robin's reputation as a crazy good percussionist and vocalist is huge...this song was begun with her playing the guitar... Barry Patterson featured on track 4 and 16 has been friends with Ben Pasley since they met in college in 1985! |

(FEATURING: 100 PORTRAITS AND FRIENDS)
2001
On our second trip to India in 2000 we took a team of videographers, musicians, and recording engineers and captured sounds from national musicians, Indian instruments, street sounds, the marketplace, and even the ambience of the Lotus Temple. Back in the States we fused these sounds from a country on the other side of the globe with the songs we had written from the Psalms and the instruments we played…all in a Circle. This worship is a sincere desire to give a global, multi-cultural ambience to the very small, simple sound of people worshiping God with guitars and hand-drums… Did you know that one dollar from the sale of every Second Circle CD is donated to two ministries in India that help the poor and bring healing to the beautiful people of India? One of them has a great website: PGM.

Sarah Stewart When you listen to track 1, listen for the sound of the old train that took us from New Dehli to Central India.
On track 7 listen for the inside of the train station and the street sounds from a city of over 2 million...
The open, spacious sound in track 9 is the inside of one of the best known Bahai temples in the world, and on this CD we now sing worship in a place that visitors are asked to make no sounds...no talking...no noise please... |

(FEATURING: 100 PORTRAITS AND WATERDEEP)
1999
The first of the series, and in many ways, still the most influential, First Circle features the musical personalities of indie duo 100 Portraits and root-rock band Waterdeep. After touring for years in bars, clubs, and places where students gathered for music and sometimes spiritual pursuit, the two bands decided to work together to create what, at that time, did not exist: a worship album for everyday people.
The goal was to put simple music together with simple hand drums and add songs stolen from the Psalms in a way that anyone could put the words into their own mouths. These songs focus on the weakness of people--everyday people--and the beauty of God when seen from this humble perspective. |

Did you know that tracks 3 and 4 were recorded into just one stereo microphone? In track 7 the "shoook" sound you hear is a string of goat toes around Robin's ankle as she stomps, in time, on a metal cookie sheet! This album only took about three days to record...and no album in this series took longer than five...if it is about gut level spontaneity then why take longer? |
